Mackenzie is on the double

But Blantyre Vics experience mixed results blantyre .............. 3 Yoker .................. 1

-

Sam Mackenzie notched his second double inside four days as Blantyre Vics beat Yoker Athletic 3-1 in Saturday’s Central First Division game.

On Wednesday he scored twice after Wishaw had taken a 3-0 lead but they lost 4-2, then on Saturday clinched the points when he bagged a double to give Vics a 3-1 win at home to Yoker.

Vics seized the upper hand early on against Yoker and opened the scoring in 14 minutes when Craig Kerr’s through ball split the defence and Jake Hughes fired home from 12 yards.

Hughes then had a shot tipped over and Mackenzie saw an effort parried, and another cleared off the line.

After the interval Mackenzie fired over and John Henderson had a shot parried, before Mackenzie burst through on a one-two with Hughes and slid the ball past the advancing keeper and into the net.

Mackenzie linked with Hughes again to steer the ball home from a tight angle in 76 minutes.

Manager John Gibson said: “It was a good result, and another good performance from Sam Mackenzie – I thought he could have had about five.

“On Wednesday we didn’t really start well at Wishaw.”

Vics won 1-0 at Shotts on Monday, with Jake Hughes scoring.

Wishaw’s 4-2 win over Vics last Wednesday saw them climb up a place in the division as they bite into a backlog which still leaves them with 10 games to fit in.

But on Monday they lost 2-1 to second-top St Roch’s, with goalkeeper Sandy Thomson scoring from the spot.

Top scorer Vinnie Mcguire opened the scoring on Wednesday with a penalty in 23 minutes and in the second half Dean Kindlan doubled that advantage, with Ryan Smillie adding a third.

Mackenzie twice scored for Blantyre but Kindlan added a fourth to seal the points for Wishaw.

Wishaw lost 4-2 at Neilston on Saturday, with Vinnie Mcguire equalising with a cracking free kick, and Jason Thomson giving them a 2-1 lead,

Neilston levelled, then took the lead with a penalty. Wishaw missed a spot-kick, then Neilston bagged a fourth.

Thorniewood lost 3-1 to St Roch’s, with Sean Fallon scoring.

Forth drew 1-1 at home to Glasgow Perthshire last Wednesday, with Ryan Connelly scoring.

On Monday they beat Yoker 3-2, Stephen Larkin, Kris Jarvie and Barry Mcgeechan scoring.
