Singer Joe’s Celtic field of dreams

- Leona Greenan

A Blantyre singer raised the roof at the home of Celtic with a stunning rendition of fans’ favourite You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Indie rocker Joe Gallacher was asked by the club to take to the stage with the team on Saturday when they returned to the stadium with the Scottish Cup.

And he also returned the following day to perform again at the testimonial match for Celtic captain Scott Brown.

The 34-year-old said:“i had played at the Player of the Year dinner dance earlier in the month, and had a couple of other gigs at Celtic.

“But being a Celtic fan myself it was absolutely amazing to take to the platform with the double treble winners and perform You’ll Never Walk Alone to thousands of celebrating fans.”

Joe – who performs as Toy Tin Soldier – stood next to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers on Saturday evening as the team returned to Celtic Park following their 2-0 victory against Motherwell.

And after his performance went down a storm, the former St John Ogilvie High pupil was invited back to sing the song again before Brown’s testimonial against the Republic of Ireland. Celtic-mad Joe added:“i was really humbled and delighted to have been asked, and then to return to sing at our captain’s testimonial on the pitch at Celtic Park was on another level.

“The club were fantastic to me, my wife Claire and our kids and I’d like to thank Celtic Football Club for the opportunity – and of course for yet another stunning season of football.”

Joe used to play in Scottish band Mr Kil and also performs with Blantyre charity act Tyre Walk N Rollers.
