A Dutch of class
Blantyre Vics 2007s savoured silverware success as they brought home a cup all the way from Amsterdam.
The boys travelled to Zandevoort over the May holiday weekend to participate in both the SV Vogelenzang tournament and the Olympia Soccer Cup.
And the team did themselves proud by winning one competition and narrowly missing out on the other.
They claimed the SV Vogelenzang competition on the Saturday against tough physical opponents, playing in 27 degree heat. And the Sunday saw the boys travel to the training ground of Dutch side Feyenoord FC in Rotterdam where they only narrowly missed out on the top spot again – facing big European counterparts such as Barcelona Soccer School.
Later that evening the players, along with their families and coaches, enjoyed a presentation dinner and displayed their winning trophies from the weekend and were presented with a flag and ribbons to commemorate their first European trip.
Coach Alan Mcdonald said: “A huge thank you to fellow coach Stephen Rushbury for organising the weekend.
“On behalf of all four of the coaches – myself, Stephen, Davie Anderson and Robin Cook – we would to personally thank the boys for yet another successful season. These boys continue to grow as football players and friends and it is a pleasure to coach them and watch them play.
“We were delighted to go to Amsterdam and have such huge success and bring back the silverware to Blantyre. It was a real proud moment for us all.
“Thank you to the families for their support and for making the weekend one we will never forget.”
