Sporting heroes are honoured

North Lanarkshir­e’s night to celebrate

North Lanarkshir­e’s Sport Awards took place during a glittering ceremony at Motherwell FC.

The awards, which celebrated the achievemen­ts of people involved in club sport, school sport and volunteers throughout the area, were compered by comedian and newspaper columnist Tam Cowan.

This year a record number of nomination­s were received, making the job of selecting winners for each of the 12 categories all the more difficult.

The winners were: Grant Bonar, Wado Kai Karate (Ravenscrai­g). Robyn Bellshill. Gowrie, Active St Serf ’s Primary, Airdrie. Schools, Craig Peattie, Clyde Powerchair FC.

Frank Connelly, All Saints’ Primary, Airdrie. Jamie Parker, Cumbernaul­d Academy. FC. Cumbernaul­d Academy. Clyde Powerchair Richard Leach, Motherwell AAC. Alexander Miller, Cumbernaul­d Colts.

Ally Sinclair, NL Chiefs Basketball Club. Frank Delaney, Springhill ABC.

Councillor Frank Mcnally, convener of Education, said: “It has been another great year for sport in North Lanarkshir­e, with huge numbers of young people participat­ing on a regular basis.

“The awards are in recognitio­n of the provision and support for these activities which make such a difference to so many people in our communitie­s.”

Fiona Sinclair, Active Schools manager, said: “A special thank you must go to our sponsors who have made this event possible, Specsavers in Wishaw.”
