Music and honours Uddingston DJ gets a double-whammy of success

- Kirsten Mcstay

An Uddingston DJ had a first class weekend as he scooped an honours degree and bagged a dream festival gig in the same week.

Sean Callaghan, was absolutely over the moon to pick up his degree in engineering management and get the opportunity to DJ at the popular Glasgow festival TRNSMT over three days.

The 28-year-old has been studying for a degree in engineering management as well as carving out a successful DJ career.

And last weekend, Sean – who DJS under the name of Sean Claude – was attracting hundreds of revellers to The Smirnoff House stage at the festival over the three days.

Sean who plays at Jnkyrd in Hamilton’s Chapel Street, has performed across the UK and has also DJ’D in the French Alps after winning the Coors Light DJ Quest in 2016.

Former Holy Cross High pupil Sean says he couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate bagging a first class degree than performing at one of Scotland’s newest and most popular festivals.

He said: “To graduate and play at TRNSMT in the same week couldn’t have been timed any better. It was a brilliant way to end a great week. After my graduation ceremony at Hamilton Town House, I was busy looking out music for the festival.

“It was really special playing to the home crowd, and it meant that a lot my friends managed along to support me. You really can’t beat a Scottish crowd!

“The Smirnoff House stage was a great experience and I’m glad that I was asked back again this year to play at it. I’d like to say a big thanks to the Smirnoff House team who looked everyone so well to make it an unforgettable weekend.

“The whole weekend was amazing however Sunday was pretty special getting to play a threehour set in front of an enthusiastic crowd who really went for it and despite the heat they stayed for the whole time. The entire festival was really well organised and well laid out and everyone who was there was there for a good time, it’s been my favourite gig so far.

“I’m in Ibiza just now and have been chatting to some promoters and hoping to have a set lined up before heading home. It’s been a great start to the summer and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next few months hold.”
