Comic convention hits Hamilton

- Shirley Bartenek

Comic book fans are all set to attend a comic con right on their doorstep this weekend.

The event, which celebrates comics, fantasy and cosplay, will be held at the Town House on Saturday, July 7.

And the event comes after MSP Christina Mckelvie and MP Angela Crawley said that an annual comic book convention could help rejuvenate the town centre.

The idea to host a comic convention emerged from a public consultation into ways to regenerate Hamilton town centre organised by the politicians in 2016.

Now organisers Big Glasgow Comic Page have stepped in to arrange the event.

The day will have a packed schedule of workshops, talks, quizzes and activities for all ages – from tots to adults – as well as special guest writers and artists.

Visitors will also get the opportunity to become the star of their own movie poster.

Green screen sessions that put kids‘in the picture’will be available from event photographer Scott Gorman.

Scott’s sessions combine professional studio photography, stunning graphic design and of course a little magic, to put you at the heart of the action.

All of his scenes are customdesigned and use state of the art software, techniques and painstaking attention to detail in order to create the illusion that you are the star of your very own movie.

It’s suitable for all ages and would make a unique and amazing gift for your very own superhero.

All sessions come with a 8 x 6 mounted souvenir print and the option to have your image transformed into your very own work of art (posters, canvas, frames and a selection of gift items such as phone covers or keyrings).

Although loads of people attend the events in amazing costumes, Scott has a small selection available in case your cape is at the dry cleaners.

To book a slot you can simply turn up on the day and book your session but due to limited availability we recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

When you book via the Big Glasgow Comic Page site, you will save 20 per cent compared to the on the day price.

The Hamilton event, which will run from 11am to 5pm, is suitable for all ages. Entry is £2 per person, and under 10s are free.
