Final piece in £½m restoration jigsaw
Repairs at B-listed Cadzow Parish Church
A Hamilton church has received the final piece of funding which will help transform and restore the building.
Cadzow Parish Church benefited from a multifaceted package of funding totalling over £500,000.
The cash will be used to undertake essential stonework window and roofwork repairs to the Category B listed building.
Five different funders, Heritage Lottery Fund, Viridor Credits, WREN, Baird Trust and Ferguson Bequest contributed £416,000 to the church,secured through applications, to this development.
Alongside this, members of Cadzow are digging deep and raising funds to do their bit to secure this new future for Cadzow.
Heritage Lottery Fund, the largest funder, also provided Cadzow with the opportunity to develop a project to engage with the local community.
The church plan to do this through the work of the music arts centre.
Reverend John Carswell, minister of Cadzow, said:“we devised the Cadzow Music Arts Centre (CMAC) as a way of promoting organ and choir music in Lanarkshire with the express aim of encouraging existing choirs, holding organ recitals and opening up the church for organ instruction.
“Most especially though, we hope to develop new choirs and fellowship groups amongst marginalised members of the community (elderly, lonely, disabled, health issues, etc.).
“The benefits of singing for improving mental and physical health are well documented so it is our hope that we can reach out to folks who might not otherwise have the opportunity to engage in such a group.
“Additionally, the CMAC will be a way of encouraging members of the church and the community to volunteer to support and promote the programme.
“Towards that end we are offering a three part volunteer management training course sponsored by VASLAN here in Hamilton.
“The first session will be held at the church on August 18, 10-4pm and spaces are available.”
