Sign up and grab a free gym pass

- Shirley Bartynek

As the countdown continues to the town’s first 10k event, we can announce this week that everyone who signs up to the run will receive a free gym pass for a day.

The town’s Xercise4less, in the New Cross Centre, have vowed to offer all those who sign up for the Hamilten 10K a pass for their facility.

And the gym’s sales and marketing manager Amanda Jane Clark said:“this is a great sporting event for the town, and we are delighted to be able to offer this as an incentive to those who sign up ahead of the big run this September.

“It’s a terrific idea to get people into the centre.”

Since the Advertiser officially launched the major sporting event, many of you have been quick to back it.

You can sign up for the September run at entrycentral.com – but we want to get as many feet on the street as possible for the unique Hamilten event.

Your Advertiser has teamed up with Hamilton Business Improvement District (BID) to bring you the run that will take in some of the town’s most famous landmarks.

Whether you walk, run or simply come to cheer on those taking part, we would be delighted to see you on Saturday, September 22.

And there will also be plenty of fun for the family while the runners are in action.

The large-scale event for 1500 runners will begin in the town’s Castle Street and take a route that goes past the Low Parks Museum, entering the Palace Grounds, past the Davie Cooper Memorial, then through the tunnel towards Strathclyde Park.

Runners will then head north along the waterside before looping back on themselves at the far end of the loch and finishing back in Castle Street.

The event is being supported by local businesses, Police Scotland, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and South Lanarkshire Council.

There will also be prizes awarded to the winners of each category: 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female overall; 1st, 2nd and 3rd senior male and female; 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vet 40 male and female; and 1st, 2nd, 3rd Vet 50 male and female.

The race begins at 9.30am and there will be a stage area with music to entertain spectators until the runners return.
