Drivers are warned about overnight M74 road repairs
Overnight resurfacing of the M74 Northbound at Junction 8 will take place over three consecutive evenings from Friday, July 20.
Scotland Transerv, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the works which are expected to be completed and traffic management lifted by 6am on the morning of Monday, July 23.
The short programme of works will allow for the resurfacing of nearly 700 metres of the motorway which provides access to the communities of Larkhall, Ashgill and other parts of the Clyde Valley.
Alan Murray, Scotland Transerv’s Principal Roads Design Engineer said: “The M74 is a major trunk route into the busy Central Belt of Scotland and that’s why we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of this important programme of work. It will be necessary to implement full overnight closures of the M74 Northbound at this point, with short diversion routes in place.
“We have been working with local authorities and key stakeholders in the area in the scheduling of this £140k programme of work.
“Every effort is being made to keep disruption to an absolute minimum while works are carried out.”
In order to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement the following traffic management systems:
• Friday night: Full overnight road closures of the M74 Northbound between Junction 10 and Junction 8
• Saturday & Sunday night: Diverted off the M74 Northbound at Junction 8 off slip and back on at the Junction 8 on slip
Further diversion details are available on the Scotland Transerv website.
Drivers are asked to allow additional time for their journey and to follow @trafficscotland on Twitter or check trafficscotland.org for live journey time updates.
Andy Fraser, Scotland Transerv’s operating company representative also added:“across South West Scotland, we’re working on behalf of Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly and safely as possible.
“We have scheduled this programme of work to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption to the thousands of commuters and freight drivers using this extremely important economic artery every day.”
