Free uniforms, supplies, lunch boxes and hair cuts on offer

Community Links have joined forces with other partners to create a ‘back to school’ event in Hillhouse which offers clothes, school supplies and free haircuts for kids.

They have been working with others to offer a number of free school resources for primary and secondary pupils to help families in South Lanarkshire with low incomes get ready for school.

The event will take place in Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre on Thursday, August 2, between 11am-3pm.

Resources are limited, but will include:

•Free new and ‘gently used’ school clothes

•Free lunch box supplies •Free school supplies •Free haircuts for boys and girls (Hillhouse only).

Paul Hayward, Social Marketing Officer for Community Links said: “Buying new school uniforms is expensive, particularly for families living on low incomes and those with more than one child.

“We have called upon some local partners, schools and businesses to offer help including: ASDA Hamilton; Tesco; Udston Primary School; Glenlee Primary School; St Cuthbert’s Primary School; Calderside High School; St John Ogilvie High School; South Lanarkshire College; and Hillhouse Community HUB.

“Although we have been successfully running Swap Shops for the last few months, this is the first time we have organised an event which exclusively provides school clothes for children, and we expect it to be very, very busy.

“Resources are limited, so we advise that you try and make it along as early as possible to get everything you need”.

As well as standard shirts, trousers, skirts and pinafores, some local schools have kindly donated items such as blazers, hair bobbles and ties with school colours.

The Burnbank Centre will also host a back to school event on Friday, August 3, between 10am1pm. Trinity Parish Church will also hold the event on Monday, August 6 between 11am-2pm.
