Three and easy as Hamilton see off the Warriors

Stenh’semuir . 1 Hamilton ....... 3

Hamilton Accies grabbed a convincing pre-season friendly win over Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.

Manager Martin Canning gave most of his squad a run-out against the League One side, with first-half goals from Mason Bloomfield and Rakish Bingham putting the Premiership men on easy street.

Although Stenny pulled a goal back eight minutes into the second half, a late strike by Ross Cunningham made sure of the win.

Accies attacked right from the start, and in two minutes Darian Mackinnon forced a fine save from Graeme Smith after being put through on the former Motherwell goalkeeper.

The visitors were in total control of the game and took the lead in five minutes when a deep cross from the right was met at the left post by Tom Taiwo, his shot was blocked by Smith, and Bloomfield netted at the second attempt, having hit the left post with his initial effort.

Hamilton continued to attack and Bloomfield was unlucky not to be played in again when he latched onto a headed passback, but experienced Smith gathered.

Bingham went close with a lob in 14 minutes, and in 29 minutes Mickel Miller was released down the left flank and he burst through on goal, but with Smith closing the angle, he shot just over.

Stenhousemuir were penalised twice ahead of Hamilton’s second goal, when Scott Mcmann was brought down just outside the box and Bingham’s free-kick was knocked away with an arm, with referee Steven Mclean pointing to the spot.

The striker picked up the ball and sent Smith the wrong way, burying the penalty in the right corner for 2-0.

Stenny came out fighting in the second half and pulled a goal back through Alan Cook in 53 minutes, with a rocket into the left corner.

Although Hamilton had the luxury of a missed penalty by Dougie Imrie in 80 minutes, they made sure of the win when Lewis Smith played a superb through ball for Ross Cunningham to chip into the right corner with four minutes left.
