Scott Mcmann admitted Hamilton’s Betfred Cup results haven’t been good enough, but insists they’ll get it right for their Premiership opener at home to Hearts on August 4.
The young defender played in Saturday’s shock defeat at Annan and in Tuesday night’s draw and penalties loss at home to Livingston.
Mcmann understands that fans aren’t happy with new-look Hamilton’s start to the season, but urges patience.
He said: “It’s not what we were after, we were looking to go and win the game.
“The penalty shoot-out was a lottery, we can’t read too much into that, but we were looking to get three points.
“Saturday was disappointing; I wouldn’t say that was acceptable or anywhere near it, but I thought we definitely improved against Livingston and played some nice football on the new pitch and just couldn’t get the result.
“It was an improvement on Tuesday, but Saturday just wasn’t acceptable.”
Mcmann felt Hamilton weren’t especially troubled by the Premiership newcomers, but just couldn’t convert chances into goals.
“I felt that we were pretty comfortable,” he said. “In the first half we played well, created a bit more, in the second half we slowed down a bit more.
“The positive is that we looked solid across the back, but just couldn’t create that chance.
“This is still our pre-season, so it’s two more games to go and improve our fitness
