Add your voice to the town’s choral society

-

Male and female voices are being recruited ahead of the new season of Strathaven Choral Society.

The group kicks off again on August 20, with rehearsals held at Strathaven Evangelical Church every Monday from 7.30pm.

Led by musical director Chris Barr, the society is a charity and the repertoire is extensive.

The choir has been involved in performing at many events including a theatrical work as well as concerts at the West End Festival in Glasgow in 2013, 2015 and 2018.

New members don’t need to read music, as help will be given, and don’t need to live in Strathaven.

A spokesperson for the society said: “Have you been involved in music? Maybe you once were a singer but circumstances got in the way. Might it be time to return to it or even to try it as a new pastime?

“If you enjoy music why not try coming along to Strathaven Choral on a Monday evening? Do you fancy something social but different to do?

“No need to be able to read music, it helps but you’ll get all the help you need from colleagues and our conductor Christopher Barr.

“Singers, male and female, are always wanted.

“Singing is really fun and good for you, and Strathaven Choral Society will give you a warm welcome.”

The society’s seasonal concert will be held in Strathaven in December, featuring the Coalburn Silver Band for some exciting seasonal music – with a twist! The concert with the band has been a sell-out in the last two years and was great fun. Members will be performing a selection of new music but the old favourites will not be forgotten either.
