A taste of Africa

-

Larkhall and District Volunteer Group were delighted to host two African themed lunch clubs last month.

The lunches were provided by Heart of Africa UK, cooked by Tuoyo and his team.

On July 19, they tucked into diced fried plantains, Kenyan farm salad, Ghana Joloff rice, Nigerian rainbow fried rice and Mr T styled fried chicken thighs and drumsticks.

On July 24, the members were invited to try Kenyan farm salad, Nigerian style beef tomato stew, Mokimo (Kenyan style mashed potato) and Nigerian style coconut white rice.

Both lunches were hugely popular with members old and new with positive feedback all round.

A young girl who attended with her gran said :“I don’t like anything with curry or a spicy taste, but I loved the meal and especially the Mokimo. I ate all of it and now I’m stuffed!”

Sandra Mccrory, funding and marketing coordinator, said:“it was really interesting to learn about the differences between Scottish cooking and African cooking. The food was delicious and the fact that Tuoyo’s cooking is healthy and nutritious was a bonus.

“We are excited to see what we can do together next“.

Due to the success of both days, LDVG and Heart of Africa will be looking at bringing African food, dance and music to Larkhall on a regular basis.
