Language boost on two-week trip

Ten Spanish students enjoy Larkhall hospitality

- Shirley Bartynek

A programme set up to help a group of Spanish students develop their language skills has been hailed a success.

The ten students from Madrid and Toledo found homes with families throughout Larkhall during the summer months in an effort to help develop their English skills.

The programme was arranged through Eve Malina of Larkhall and her friend Isabel Alcalde Nombela who runs Talktalk Idiomas which is a language academy in Madrid.

To celebrate their two-week stay a family barbecue party was held in Larkhall Baptist Church last Friday evening.

Eve said: “We held the barbecue to celebrate what a great time the kids have had. They’ve had a jam-packed timetable of morning English classes and various activities and trips in the afternoons.

“We also wanted to thank the kids, their host families, The Light House who have rented us space for English classes in the mornings, the Larkhall District and Volunteer Group who we have hired a minibus from and Larkhall United Church, who have been so welcoming to the kids.

“We would also like to hear from anyone thinking of becoming a Homestay host family next summer, when we plan on doing it all again, then please get in touch.”
