Banter Thiefs get all set for hometown gig

- Kirsten Mcstay

Lanarkshire band The Banter Thiefs have organised a gig to celebrate their recent success.

Following on from the release of two EPS and to celebrate the success of their own version of ‘Up The Well’, the lads will be playing a hometown show on Saturday, September 15, at Club100 in Motherwell.

As Motherwell Football Club made it to the Scottish Cup final in May, the band decided to re-record the1969 classic.

They had put out a public appeal for fans to come along to Fir Park to help them record some vocals for the song, in order to make the single even more special.

Footballers Chris Cadden, Liam Grimshaw, Richard Tait and Cedric Kipre all got the chance to showcase their voices in the single.

The Fir Park favourite was so wellreceived, that at one point, it was at number one in the alternative charts and climbed up the official itunes download chart into the top 20 overtaking the likes of Rita Ora.

The lads say at the gig planned for Club 100 they are delighted to have some fantastic acts supporting .

Connor Fyfe Music, Vagabonds, Pyramids & Mesmerene will be joining them.

Speaking previously about the release of ‘Up The Well’ Derek Watson said: “The response was totally overwhelming.

“We genuinely couldn’t believe how many people have viewed the video, and to be in the top 20 in the itunes charts is just bizarre – in a good way of course!

“We’ve tried to reiterate through the whole process that it’s not about us as a band, it’s about the community as a whole – from the kids who came along, to Scott who recorded it for us, the media staff at Motherwell for providing footage and also the players who gave it their all singing.”

Guitarist Keith Condie said they are all really looking forward to playing in Club 100 next month.

He said: “We played King Tuts last month to launch our latest EP and it was a huge success.

“We’re really looking forward to playing in Motherwell again.

“We had a great support from the local community around the time of releasing the cup final song and we’re confident the new songs will be really well received. “It’s sure to be a really busy night!” Tickets for the event are on sale now but are expected to go fast so be quick.
