Craig double fires Shotts to victory

-

Shotts scored twice within five minutes of the second half and added a late third to beat Wishaw 3-1 in Saturday’s Sectional League Cup Group 15 tie.

After a goal-less first half when they pushed forward with a strong wind at their backs, Shotts scored three minutes after the interval.

Danny Burns set up the opener with a pass to Jordan Craig and he gave keeper Jim Brown no chance as he looped a shot into the top corner.

Two minutes later Burns raced into the box and, as he was surrounded by Wishaw defenders, set up Craig to slot home a second.

Sub Taylor Evans nipped in behind the Wishaw defence to steer home a Dean Sutherland pass in 76 minutes to score on his debut.

Wishaw, who had six ex-shotts men in their squad, cashed in on an error by keeper John Murdoch, allowing Paul Burns to tap in.

Shotts manager John Mckeown said:“i thought it was a deserved win. Wishaw are a good side – I know, because I’ve been there.

“In the first half we had control, better chances and more possession, and we started the second half well with two great finishes from Jordan Craig.

“A couple of midfielders chipping in with goals is pleasing, especially for Taylor who just signed on Saturday from Stirling Albion.

“I thought Danny Burns led the line well and unselfishly laid the ball on for players to score.

“It was a good team performance, we were solid defensively, with only one silly mistake from John Murdoch conceding a goal.”

On Monday night Shotts clocked up another 3-1 win, this time at Forth Wanderers, with goals from Michael Collinder and a Danny Burns double.

Stephen Larkin scored for Forth.
