Hamilton win penalty shoot-out 3-0

Defender Ziggy Gordon says Hamilton must develop a ruthless streak and learn to win ugly if they are to take points from Hearts in their Premiership opener on Saturday.

The 25-year-old says Accies must learn to kill teams off when they’re ahead or they will always end up drawing or losing games.

Accies took the lead against the League One side through a superb Rakish Bingham goal in 62 minutes, but the Diamonds hit back with a good goal of their own with seven minutes left.

Gordon knowst any errors will be punished during this season’s campaign – and told Hamilton to shut the back door.

He said: “We have to be ruthless, this league is absolutely ruthless.

“I don’t know how many times I’ve played in Premier League games where you would give away one chance and you lose 1-0.

“I would love to be in the team that gets one chance and scores. However, we seem to be the side that creates many chances but doesn’t score enough goals to show our quality.

“I hope it will come with time – we need it to come with time – and I fully, wholeheartedly believe in every player in this team, so I have no qualms with the effort that everyone puts in.

“I feel we will be prepared for the game against Hearts on Saturday.

“I feel on Saturday against Airdrie we didn’t show our qualities and when you’re 1-0 up we need to kill the team. We need to
