- Robert Mitchell

Fairhill Community Group have been awarded £500 from the Asda Foundation.

The team are a group of people who are passionate about making Fairhill a better place to live.

They run the Fairhill Community Cafe which takes place every Monday between 11am to 2pm in Trinity Parish Church.

The cafe has just finished hosting a successful summer programme where they put on free activities for families and they are now in the process of organising the popular Fairhill Fun Day.

Kimberly Keys, community champion for Asda Hamilton, said: “The Green Token Giving programme has been running for four years.

“Every three months, Asda’s customers have a choice between three local good causes. The group with the most votes receive a cheque for £500 and both runners up get £200 each. The initiative is a great way to support local good causes and charities, not only financially but it also helps raise awareness of the services they provide.

“The Asda Foundation also offers Local Impact and Significant Project grants for bigger projects that benefit the wider community.

“The Fairhill Community Cafe were recently awarded a £700 Local Impact grant to the Fairhill Fun Day.”

Community Links help the volunteers, and Heather Robertson is the development officer for Fairhill.

She said: “We are delighted that all the hard work of Fairhill Community Group has been recognised.

“Earlier this year, the group were awarded £750 from the support Asda Foundation, which will help them continue to deliver activities to benefit the local Fairhill community.

“Asda have been a fantastic support to the group this year – we recommend other local community groups to sign up for the initiative.”

The funding will help support the annual Fairhill Fun Day, which will take place this year on Saturday, September 8, between noon and 4pm at South Lanarkshire Lifestyles Centre in Neilsland Road, Fairhill..
