Villa boys shine at footie fest

Aston Villa Boys’ Clubs 2005s and 2004s, based in Uddingston, recently took part in the prestigious Barcelona Football Festival.
This is an annual event organised and attended by teams from all over Europe and further afield.
It was an incredible experience for all the players, coaches and families who attended. Even the early morning 6am flight from Edinburgh didn’t dampen the enthusiasm.
The 2005 age group were successful against English opposition (twice), ran a Brazilian team close (1-2 defeat), were conquerors of a Swedish team and got to the semi-final where they came up against the eventual winners of the cup.
The boys came up short against the French but did themselves proud.
Organisers said everyone had a fantastic time in the sun and memories were made that will stay with them for a long time.
The club intends to return to the Barcelona tournament in 2019.
This will involve fundraising activities throughout the year.
Anyone interested in getting involved with fundraising for Barcelona next year should contact the club coaches.
Parents are also being asked to inform the club if they, and family members, are planning to attend the tournament. The club have also stated that they will be unable to pay the full cost of the trip in 2019.
Since their return from Barcelona, the boys have won the Strathaven and Maryhill Boys’ Clubs tournaments and performed well in the Raemonn Gormley Football Festival. They are currently on the lookout for players who could enhance the squad.
