Feet of Clay walking in the right direction

- Andrew Bargh

The singer of a Coatbridge band reckons they are “the best we’ve ever been” ahead of upcoming gigs.

Kirkwood’s John-paul Mcmullen is the frontman of psychedelic rock outfit Feet of Clay.

He revealed the six-piece are set to play at two Ayrshire festivals in the near future, as well as travelling to England to take part in the Lindisfarne festival in Northumberland – headlined by the Happy Mondays.

They’ll then bring their sound to Live @ Troon the following weekend before heading to Kimarnock’s Dirty Weekender in November, which features acts such as Jake Bugg and The Coral.

Excited John-paul said: “Everything is going brilliantly at the moment.

“This is the best we’ve ever been as a band in terms of musicianship.

“Everyone is on the same wavelength and we’re writing a lot more which we love.

“We’re buzzing for Lindisfarne as we haven’t played down south before.

“We got that gig through a competition and although it’s only a small set, we’re playing right next to the main stage in-between bands so hopefully it will be a big crowd.

“Kilmarnock and Troon are new for us to so it’s going to be good to try out some new places.

“Although we love writing, performing live is definitely our favourite thing as a band.

“Playing your music to a crowd is the best and we’ve got the chance to play to new crowds now which is exciting.

“When we’re on stage we’re energetic and definitely have a presence.

“That’s our thing – we like to put a show on.”

The band’s recent single, Crash, shows off the band’s psychedelic edge with Pink Floyd vibes echoing throughout.

Expanding on the band’s change in style, John-paul continued: “We had more of a 90s Britpop sound but we’ve become more psychedelic.

“We introduced a keyboard about a year ago and that’s changed our sound a lot.

“We have jams and mess around and we always seem to go down that kind of route now.

“We’ve been together for about seven years so you evolve as a band.

“There’s more musicianship compared to probably being rank rotten a few years back!

“Now we experiment with different sounds.”
