Pop to shops on free bus

Group running service to Asda for over 55s

- Shirley Bartynek

A free bus service has been set up to take Strutherhill residents aged over 55 for their shopping.

Larkhall and District Volunteer Group (LDVG) have received funding from Our Place Our Plan Strutherhill to run a pilot shopping bus from Strutherhill to Larkhall Asda for 50 weeks. Sandra Mccrory, funding and marketing coordinator at LDVG explained: “The shopping bus was requested as a direct result of the Our Place Our Plan community consultation, where it was highlighted as a priority need for the area by residents of Strutherhill.”

She added: “We are delighted to be involved in this pilot and hope that the community benefit from this new service.” The bus will collect residents who are over 55 from the Strutherhill area, and escort them to Larkhall Asda.

“Once they have completed their shopping, they will then be driven home.”

The bus will run every Wednesday leaving Strutherhill at 10am and returning from Asda at noon.

Residents are required to register for the service and if they would like to book a seat on the bus, book before noon on the Tuesday. Registration forms can be collected from Chalmers Church, from the LDVG office or emailed out.

To support this service, we are keen to recruit volunteers from the Strutherhill area as escorts to assist people in and out of their homes.
