Information needed in drugs fight
Since the start of the financial year, within our local subdivision, we have made 47 charges against those who are involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs.
A large number of these detections are as a result of us searching houses under a search warrant authorised by a sheriff.
It is often through information from people living in our communities that allows us to get the information required to obtain these warrants. It may be neighbours observing people regularly coming, or it may simply be a member of the public receiving information about someone dealing drugs.
I would urge anyone who has knowledge of potential drug dealing to let us know – it is only by working together with the people who live in our communities that we can make them safe.
There are a number of ways to report drug dealing to the police. The 101 number can be used, and you can of course pass on information to a police officer, particularly your local community officer. Crimestoppers can be phoned on 0800 555 111 or you can provide information anonymously on their website.
Over the last week we have had a number of vehicles broken into, in and around the areas of Low Waters, Eddlewood and Fairhill. The thefts have generally been occurring overnight with the suspect breaking the windows of the vehicles to steal property from within. We have also had similar thefts in the Blantyre area, including a report of a male entering a motor vehicle, in Monteith Place, between 1.30am and 8.30am on Monday, September 3. We have a description of a white male, mid30s, short curly dark hair wearing a bomber-style jacket.
We also had a report of a male acting suspiciously in a garden in Poplar Place, Blantyre, just after midnight on Tuesday. I would appeal to the residents of these areas to report seeing or hearing anything suspicious.
We are investigating a wilful fire which occurred at Empire Turkish Barbers, Townhead Street, Hamilton, between 2pm on August 28 and 9am on August 31. Entry has been forced to the premises and a fire has been set within. We are also investigating a fire to a red Transit van, which occurred between 9pm and 11.30pm on August 31, Glengonnar Street, Larkhall.
We continue to focus on those who still feel that it is acceptable to drive under the influence of alcohol and on August 29, a 55-year-old was arrested and charged in relation to this on Glenfruin Road, Blantyre. A 29-yearold has also been reported to the procurator fiscal for allegedly driving a car whilst disqualified in Hamilton Town Centre.
We are currently working with partner agencies, in particular the local authority, in relation to ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour around the Burnbank area. In recent weeks we have deployed additional officers to this area and arrests have been made. We will continue to do provide directed patrols and would again ask that if anyone has specific information regarding anyone causing concern to let us know.
