Council invite to public

-

A public event to present the findings of a survey on the future of Hamilton town centre will take place next week.

South Lanarkshire Council Leader John Ross will welcome members of the public and politicians to the event before a presentation on the consultation.

It will take place in the Town House, Cadzow Street, Hamilton , at 6pm on Tuesday, September 11.

Councillor Ross said: “I hope as many people as possible will come along to hear the responses to the consultation and how it will inform the Hamilton Town Centre Strategy moving forward.

“The strategy and action plan are designed to help improve the town centre. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey, either online or at the event we held in the Regent Centre.

“I have been delighted with the feedback and it is hugely encouraging that so many people are determined to make Hamilton Town Centre a success.

“These are exciting times for Hamilton and as a council we will make sure everyone is kept up to speed with our plans.”

Officers from the council’s Economic Development Services will be at the Town House for two hours prior to the presentation to answer questions.

The Consultative Draft Hamilton Town Centre Strategy and Action plan sets out a range of initiatives which the council wish to pursue with partners to help the town centre adapt to an ever-changing environment.

The finalised strategy, reflecting the findings of the consultation and public event, will be reported a future Community and Enterprise Resources Committee.

And the model being used for Hamilton will also be adapted and used for other town centres in South Lanarkshire.

Councillor Ross added: “we will look to use this model as a basis for other town centres moving forward, in particular Blantyre, Cambuslang and Larkhall.”
