Goodegg launch free child car seat checks

-

Free child car seat checking events are taking place in Hamilton, thanks to the Good Egg Safety campaign.

Parents and carers can get their child’s car seat checked by a Good Egg Safety expert and be confident that it is fitted correctly and will keep their child safer, in the event of a collision.

The checks will take place at Sainsbury’s car park in Hamilton on Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15, from 11am until 4pm.

This is a major new initiative launched by Road Safety Scotland and leading car seat safety experts, Good Egg Safety, to raise awareness of the dangers to children of travelling in a car seat which doesn’t fit them properly or is incorrectly fitted. Last year, during checking sessions, 60 per cent of child car seats were found to be incorrectly fitted or incompatible to the child/vehicle across Scotland.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Roads Safety Forum, Councillor Julia Marrs, said:“an unrestrained child can suffer fatal injuries in a collision at less than five mph.

“Parents may have already installed a child car seat to protect their child, but the danger of serious injury is just as great if the seat is not fitted properly or if they have chosen the wrong type of seat for the height, weight and age of their child.

“I am delighted that this added reassurance will be available for parents in South Lanarkshire.”
