Walk in park for support

Suicide awareness

- Robert Mitchell

A walk will be held in Strathclyde Park this weekend to raise awareness about suicide.

The charity FAMS (Families and Friends Affected by Murder and Suicide) are behind the family day.

It will take place at the park between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday, September 9.

A spokesperson for FAMS said: “Our event is free and open to anyone affected by suicide, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, their families and friends.

“There are no registration fees or costs whatsoever, ensuring social and economic inclusion.

“Free activities are provided for children and young adults, plus free entertainment and refreshments. Information stands from various local and national charities will be available to discuss their services and options.”

The event – called #Let’s Walk About Suicide – will also have a ‘tea and talk tent’ available on the day.

The spokesperson added: “Suicide is a family affair. Its ripple affect can touch all members of a family, irrespective of age.

“Therefore, FAMS invites you, your family and friends to participate in this event. Our event is unique, bringing together whole families and their friends, local communities and a host of various charities, all walking and talking about suicide.

“This event is a legacy to loved ones who have been lost to suicide.

“It’s also an appreciation to the thousands of people in Scotland who live with suicidal thoughts or behaviours every day, and are still standing.”
