Ger­ard is head­ing to Ox­ford

for­mer Holy Cross High pupil has been ac­cepted into the pres­ti­gious Ox­ford Univer­sity.

Ger­ard O’han­lon, who has just com­pleted his sixth year at the school, will head to St Hugh’s Col­lege, Ox­ford, next month.

He ap­plied to Ox­ford fol­low­ing a school ca­reer in which he ex­celled in ev­ery as­pect in­clud­ing be­ing school cap­tain, a de­bat­ing cham­pion and achiev­ing five As in his Higher ex­am­i­na­tions in S5.

Fol­low­ing his ap­pli­ca­tion, Ger­ard was in­vited to the univer­sity for an in­ter­view, where he ob­vi­ously im­pressed the pro­fes­sors.

He was of­fered a place, on con­di­tion that he achieved two A passes in Ad­vanced Higher English and math­e­mat­ics. The 18-yeara old duly de­liv­ered and will be­gin his univer­sity ca­reer in St Hugh’s Col­lege Ox­ford on Oc­to­ber 1 where he will study pol­i­tics, phi­los­o­phy and eco­nom­ics.

Marie Fa­gan, head teacher at Holy Cross, said: “We are ex­tremely proud of Ger­ard’s achieve­ments and are de­lighted for him.

“Through­out his time at Holy Cross High School, Ger­ard has been an ex­cep­tional stu­dent and an in­spi­ra­tion to us all.

“Study­ing pol­i­tics, phi­los­o­phy and eco­nom­ics at Ox­ford is a fan­tas­tic op­por­tu­nity for him and one which I am sure he will fully em­brace.

“On be­half of ev­ery­one at Holy Cross High School, I wish him ev­ery suc­cess.”
