Gerard is heading to Oxford

former Holy Cross High pupil has been accepted into the prestigiou­s Oxford University.

Gerard O’hanlon, who has just completed his sixth year at the school, will head to St Hugh’s College, Oxford, next month.

He applied to Oxford following a school career in which he excelled in every aspect including being school captain, a debating champion and achieving five As in his Higher examinatio­ns in S5.

Following his applicatio­n, Gerard was invited to the university for an interview, where he obviously impressed the professors.

He was offered a place, on condition that he achieved two A passes in Advanced Higher English and mathematic­s. The 18-yeara old duly delivered and will begin his university career in St Hugh’s College Oxford on October 1 where he will study politics, philosophy and economics.

Marie Fagan, head teacher at Holy Cross, said: “We are extremely proud of Gerard’s achievemen­ts and are delighted for him.

“Throughout his time at Holy Cross High School, Gerard has been an exceptiona­l student and an inspiratio­n to us all.

“Studying politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford is a fantastic opportunit­y for him and one which I am sure he will fully embrace.

“On behalf of everyone at Holy Cross High School, I wish him every success.”
