Waiting times at University Hospital Hairmyres’ A&E department increased according to latest statistics.

Figures published by NHS Scotland show that 91.7 per cent of patients were admitted, transferre­d or discharged within four hours for the week ending Sunday, August 26.

The Scottish Government target is 95 per cent.

This was below the health board’s average of 93.2 per cent but slightly above the NHS Scotland average of 90.3 per cent.

It was also below University Hospital Monklands in Airdrie, where 94.7 per cent were seen in the target period, and University Hospital Wishaw which recorded a figure of 93.2 per cent.

The number of patients seen within four hours at Hairmyres fell from the previous week – with the statistics recording a 2.3 per cent drop from 94 per cent.

Latest figures show that 15 patients waited over eight hours while three waited more than 12 hours.

This compares to nine patients and four patients, respective­ly, the previous week.
