Lesmahagow recorded their highest scoreline for a number of years by dismantlin­g Newmains at Craighead Park.

Gow went into the break with a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Jonny Mcstay, Matty Clarke and Paul Woodlock.

The hosts then blitzed their shellshock­ed opponents, with goals from Woodlock and Mcstay putting them 5-0 up five minutes after the restart.

Jordan Lithgow bagged a sixth, Mcstay completed his hat-trick before then adding a fourth, with Gary Nicholson rounding off the scoring.

Newmains had Paul Donaghy and co-manager Craig Gupwell sent off.

Former Wishaw keeper Sandy Thomson made his Lesmahagow debut after signing from Cambuslang Rangers.

Gow boss Robert Irving said: “It was fairly one-way traffic for most of the game.”

Victory hoisted Lesmahagow into fourth place in League Two.

Elsewhere, Forth Wanderers won 3-2 at Muirkirk, with Stephen Larkin’s early strike added to by Nathan Cassidy and a bizarre own-goal as Muirkirk goalkeeper Nathan Bogle’s clearance went in off his own defender.

Kris Jarvie was red-carded for a retaliator­y foul.

Bottom side Thorniewoo­d United lost 2-1 at Ashfield.
