Biggar are on top after two straight wins
Biggar rocketed to the top of the Tennent’s National League 2 table with a resounding 36-3 win over Stewart’smelville at Hartree Mill.
The five-try bonus point-earning win left the Edinburgh side without even hope of a bonus point.
Controversially, visiting No.8 Duncan Wood was allowed to continue in the match despite being knocked unconscious by an accidental clash of heads early in the game.
Conor Lavery kicked a penalty to put his side ahead at 3-0, and this was extended when Ross Jackson made the most of a series of forward-orientated drives at the line to pick up, pop round the side and dot down in the top corner.
Matthew Stewart showed some excellent pace to gain several yards on a number of occasions, but Biggar were unable to add to their tally. Stew-mel’s passing improved in the second half and they got on the scoreboard when scrum-half Matthew Leask kicked a penalty for 8-3 to put Biggar on the back-foot.
However, after Gregor Stewart’s bid for the line was held up, Ewan Stewart crashed over for Biggar’s second try.
A run by Donald Voas advanced play and after a break by Matthew Stewart took play deeper into the 22, with ball recycled quickly from a ruck, an inside pass from Conor Lavery saw Rowan Stewart score, with Lavery converting for 20-3.
Biggar’s defence was tested again before a penalty saw Guy Kelly peel round from the front of the lineout to take Euan Sanderson’s pass and crash over for a 25-3 lead.
Ross Bradford collected a loose ball to crash over, with Lavery converting.
