Making rally history
Lanarkshire motorsport enthusiasts can witness history being made this month when an electric car will appear for the first time in a Scottish motorsport competition.
The event is the Albar Trophy Rally at Kames Motorsport Complex in Muirkirk, East Ayrshire, on Sunday, September 23, where teenage crews will compete.
The youngsters have made great progress in recent months at closed-circuit rallies all over the UK, and will soon be in a position to challenge their peers once their ages allow them to emerge from one-litre limitation on their‘junior’ category.
The electric car will be a Renault Zoe and it will be competing in the battle for outright honours.
With so little known of the car’s performance, it will be interesting to see how it compares with the traditional petrol-driven rally cars, which will also be on show.
