Couple’s big charity boost
Duo raise £2K for suicide awareness
A Bothwell couple have raised over £2000 for a Lanarkshire suicide awareness charity.
Adele and Scott Cringles hosted the event entitled Youngs Minds in aid of Chris’s House and in memory of her young brother.
Steven Marshall was a fun-loving popular young man when he took his life on September 12, 2004, aged just 18.
His death shocked the Bothwell community and left his sister Adele, family and friends devastated.
Earlier this year the couple decided that they wanted to support Chris’s House charity and raise awareness of the work they do within the Lanarkshire community.
Adele explained: “The reason behind the charity night was to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Chris’s House, a charity I hold very close to my heart following the death of my brother Steven.
“September is also the national Suicide Prevention Awareness month and we thought the evening of September 8, the week before the fourteenth anniversary of Steven’s death, was particularly fitting to host the Young Minds fundraising evening.
“It was a lot of hard work but we were delighted with the response and to have raised the sum of £2155 for the charity.
“Scott and I wish to thank the people of Bothwell who attended our event and for all the fantastic donations and raffles we received. We would also like to thank the bar staff at St Bride’s hall, Peter Clark for opening up Young Minds with his fabulous singing and Jon and Jamie Mcdowall for entertaining us all with the DJ set.
“Thanks also to Ally Wilkes for adding the perfect touch with her flower mirror and to Dianne Boyle for a very tasty buffet.
“I would personally also like to thank my husband Scott Cringles, Helen Munro, Carol Plumb, Esther Hart, Leah Boyle, Emma Fagan and Marianne Dornan for all their help on the night.”
Chris’s House is a centre for help, response and intervention surrounding suicide. They are based at 2-4 Belhaven Road, Wishaw. The charity was founded by Anne Rowan, a Wishaw mum with a passionate vision for a crisis centre established in memory of her son Chris, whom she lost to suicide in 2011 at the age of 36.
