Our ten-acious reporter is all set

With only two days to go until the Hamilten 10k, nerves and excitement are starting to set in, writes Kirsten Mcstay.

I have never been a runner, or had any interest in running at all, but I decided that it was time to set myself a challenge.

And so I made it my mission to sign up and train for this 10k – and I can’t quite believe that it is nearly here!

Last week was my first time running the full distance.

I am not going to lie – I found it really quite tough. However, the feeling of hitting the 10k mark was amazing, and I think it will be even better on the day with the buzz of the crowds cheering everyone on and all the entertainment going on at the sidelines.

To make this challenge really worthwhile, I decided to fundraise for Eilidh Mchugh’s Beatson fund and so far I have raised over £870. Hamilton student Eilidh passed away last year after a short battle with cancer.

As my target was £500, I am truly overwhelmed and totally blown away by the kindness of people who have donated and helped me raise this fantastic amount – even people who have never met me before!

Also a huge thank you to the Mchughs for their support – they have been nothing short of lovely to me the past year never mind few months. Eilidh’s mum Elaine gifted me with a Beatson t-shirt with Eilidh’s picture on it for me to wear on the day.

I would also like to give my training partner Caitlin Wotherspoon a special mention for constantly dragging me out to run, even when I haven’t felt like it, and giving me motivation to keep on running.

Caitlin is also raising money for a Beatson fund which is close to her heart, so between us we have raised just under £2000 for the charity.

We will be hanging about before and after the race with our Beatson collection bucket so come say hi if you spot us!

It will be even better on the day with the buzz of the crowds cheering everyone on
