It was another busy week on the Hamilton Advertiser’s Facebook page.

One story many of our readers commented on was about a glam Hamilton gran who was crowned Mrs UK Classic last weekend – and will now jet off to China for the final.

Laurie Meisak (55) picked up the crown at the event which was held in Buckingham­shire on Sunday night.

The competitio­n celebrates the achievemen­ts of today’s married women, aged 45 and over.

Laurie is the first woman from Scotland to win the crown.

Mary Higgins said: “absolutely brilliant. Well done.”

Leanne Arneil posted: “i used to work for Laurie and she was just brilliant in every way. She knew how to nurture and care for her staff, she really made me part of the family, not just the team she employed. A most deserved award for a phenomenal woman. Well done Laurie!”

Another story many of our readers commented on was about The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) rolling out free gym membership­s for all its students.

We reported how the university’s new state-of-the-art facility had opened at Hamilton Internatio­nal Technology Park.

After two years and £110 million of investment, students have now moved into the in facility at Hamilton Internatio­nal Business Park from the old building in Almada Street.

And it is one of the UK’S greenest university campuses, powered exclusivel­y by renewable energy from the nearby Blantyre Muir wind farm.
