Hamilton town centre traders are set to get a business boost from the launch of free Wi-fi for shoppers.

The town’s Business Improvement District (BID) team have just launched the service with financial support from both the Scottish Government and South Lanarkshire Council.

It is free to access and to use by anyone visiting the town centre – all people need to do is log on where they see ‘Hamilton BID Free Wi-fi’ on their device.

The signal is available along key stretches like Quarry Street, Cadzow Street, Duke Street and through the Regent and New Cross Shopping Centres. It also extends to the bus station.

Mark Calpin chairman of Hamilton BID said:“we are delighted to launch Hamilton BID’S service.

“We hope that it will help businesses grow their digital presence and act as a further incentive for customers to eat, shop and play in the town.

“We are planning to use the Wi-fi system to get a better understanding of the needs and shopping habits of our customers and to make Hamilton a more attractive place to visit.

“So, save your data and log on for free on Hamilton BID Free Wi-fi.”

The Hamilton Advertiser previously reported that the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Communities Capital Fund set aside just over £20,525 for the initiative.

Elsewhere in Lanarkshire, Motherwell town centre has had free Wi-fi since 2013.
