A star is born

Talented Connor’s joy at landing lead role in Oliver! stage show

- Shirley Bartynek

A Hamilton schoolboy is set to tread the boards and star in Oliver! at Motherwell Concert Hall.

Connor Mcluggage, a pupil at Woodside Primary, will take the leading role in the four-day run in November.

The eight-year-old auditioned for part of the chorus in Our Lady’s Musical Society’s production, but was surprised when he got the re-call to audition for one of the main roles.

His mum Kereen Muldoon said: “He got called back to see if he could audition for the role of Oliver or the Artful Dodger.

“He was really pleased to then get to be selected as Oliver. He is really excited about it and is going to long rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday evenings. He has never done anything like this before.

“He goes to a drama class every Saturday morning, but for this Oliver! part he was so excited to audition. His, dad (Stuart) and I are both really proud and will be going along on the evenings of the production to support him.”

Connor has previously taken part in a television show called My World Kitchen, along with three of his classmates.

The production of Oliver! runs from November 6-10.
