Carluke Rovers drew 2-2 away to Vale of Clyde to clinch a point and move into fifth slot in League Two, with officials claiming two referee decisions denied them all three points.

After four minutes, Haley was wrestled to the ground as he turned his marker, then in 53 minutes a Vale corner headed clear by Dominic Chiedu struck a ruck of players but only the referee saw it hit the elbow of Watson.

Rovers almost scored in 15 minutes as the keeper’s legs saved Lafferty’s net-bound effort.

And the breakthrough came in 35 minutes when Lafferty fired home a Haley through-ball.

The controversial penalty put Vale 2-1 ahead in 53 minutes, but after some intense pressure, Rovers equalised.

Biggart’s volley was palmed away by a defender who was red carded for his action and Biggart bulleted home the penalty in 70 minutes.

Carluke were unlucky in 75 minutes when a free-kick headed home by Chris Dick was adjudged to be offside, then Grierson hit the bar in the 80th minutes.

Meanwhile, at Thorniewood United they clocked up a 2-1 win over Saltcoats Vics to ease their lowly league position.

Gary Stewart opened the scoring, and Davie Burns netted a second to clinch the points.

Manager Jim Mckenna said: “It was good to get a win on our sides, especially as we went into the game with nine injured players in the squad. We have to face every game this season with five/six players out injured.”

Forth Wanderers clocked up a hat-trick of Ayrshire wins in consecutive weeks, coming from 2-0 down at the break to beat Annbank United 3-2.

Elsewhere, it was a second win for Newmains United as skipper Davie Ross headed a last-minute winner to end league leaders’ Ashfield unbeaten start on a day of drama at Victoria Park.

This came just moments after United thought their chance of taking three points had gone when Paul Donaghy’s spot kick was saved.

Co-boss Craig Gupwell said:“it was a really good performance from our boys. From the first whistle, we let Ashfield know they were in for a game and we carried it through the full 90 minutes.”

The game was held up for half an hour when Martin Hannaway went down with a serious knee injury.

Lesmahagow gained another three League Two points on the road as they clocked up a 4-0 win at Vale of Leven to claim second top spot.
