Festive countdown underway

- Leona Greenan

The Christmas countdown is under way for Blantyre’s big festive lights switch-on.

Blantyre Community Committee this week announced they are now taking bookings for stall holders for the market on Sunday, November 25.

The whole event promises to be larger than ever, with more entertainment, children’s activities and vendors.

This will be the seventh annual event the committee have organised, and over the last couple of years, thousands of revellers have enjoyed the family-friendly atmosphere.

Building on the success of the summer gala day, a committee spokesperson told the Advertiser this week:“the committee this year can accommodate 50 vendors in total (approximately 30 inside and 20 outside), allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so you better be fast as this will sell out.”

Pitches are £30 for the day and are 3m x 2m. The pitch consists of a covered festive stall with table, seat and binbags.

The spokesperson added:“this year, to protect against inclement weather, the market is primarily hosted inside the large sports centre hall at Stonefield Public Park, Low Blantyre.

“A few stalls requiring power will be permitted inside the hall.”
