Mum and daughter raise almost £2k in memory of beloved Danny

- Kirsten Mcstay

A charity duo were delighted to raise over £1800 for Macmillan by hosting various events in the month of September.

Every year, Ann and her daughter Nicola organise multiple coffee morning and dinner events for the charity in memory of her husband Danny, who sadly passed away in 2006.

They had already hosted a coffee morning in St Mark’s Primary as well as a small dinner party.

Last Friday the pair held their last event which was a coffee morning from 9am until 5pm – then the duo hosted a large invite-only dinner party in their home where they entertained over 22 guests.

Ann said: “It was a fantastic evening and it was so busy! We had loads of help. My granddaughter Cara (11) came in with her friend Molly (12) and helped us sell raffle tickets and take coats.

“My friends Mary and Rose were also big helps on the night,”

The evening began at 7pm and went into the small hours.

Ann said: “In previous years, the event carried on to around one in the morning and we actually made a curfew for 1am. But, of course, there were a few of us left and we ended up going down memory lane and didn’t get to bed until 3am, but we had such a laugh!”

Over the three events Ann and her family have held, they have managed to raise over £1800 for Macmillan.

Ann said: “We were delighted to raise more than we did last year. Huge thank you to every single person who got involved, donated to the raffle, baked, cooked, attended and helped out.

“People are just so kind and generous, we were kept going the whole day. It was a great buzz and it is so fulfilling doing it for such a fantastic cause. We will be doing it all again next year, but I am retiring from the night event! No more staying up until 3am!”
