MSP Christina Mckelvie has welcomed the SNP Programme for Government.

The Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse member says it will “help contribute to a successful and vibrant South Lanarkshire, driving progress in health, social security, the environment and the economy”.

Funding announced as part of the programme includes over £2 million for victims of domestic and sexual abuse, with £1.5m dedicated to Rape Crisis Scotland.

The Scottish Government have also pledged £250m to reform mental health treatment in adults and children – delivering 430 new school, college and university counsellors, and fast-track specialist treatment for those with serious mental illness.

Further investment in localised education was also granted, with head teachers given more powers of their school budget.

In addition to the recent M73/M74 roadway improvement projects, the Scottish Government further announced a £1.5 billion National Infrastructure Mission, upgrading Scotland’s transport, connectivity and broadband.

Ms Mckelvie said: “The SNP’S plan for Scotland signals a major boost for jobs and the economy in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, including an additional £7bn infrastructure investment in schools, hospitals, transport and digital connectivity over the next five years.

“We are continuing the major reforms in our health, education and justice systems over the course of 2018-19 – with a significant £250m extra funding for mental health services, increased support for teachers, head teachers, parents and pupils, as well as a major package of reforms for the justice system, increasing support for the victims of crime and their families.

“The funding support for Rape Crisis Scotland – over £1.5m – will ensure localised services, such as the incredible Lanarkshire Rape Crisis Centre in my constituency – will continue to be able to offer advocacy, help and support.

“Despite Brexit, we will ensure Scotland remains an attractive place to live and work and provide advice and support for those EU citizens dealing with the Tory government’s unfair plans to charge them for the right to live and work here.

“These bold and ambitious plans for the year ahead are just some of the reasons why the SNP is the second biggest party in the whole of the UK.”
