3D exhibition goes on show

Students work about Scotland

- Shirley Bartynek

A group of adults with additional needs who take part in creative learning classes at Hamilton Town House have unveiled a ‘Scotland in 3D’ exhibition to family and friends.

The ‘Townhouse Townies’ have been meeting up for a number of years, producing quality art that they share with the wider community.

And Scotland in 3D, devised by the council’s Education Resources and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture’s library service, saw the group visit various cities to explore specific landmarks.

They then went onto research and create 3D printed models of the Wallace monument, SSE Hydro and Hampden Park, amongst other well-known structures.

Louise Lammie, youth, family and community learning worker, explained that the group had tackled the project with real enthusiasm and were excited to show off the fruits of their labours.

She added: “The group was set up to fill what we felt was a gap in provision for ASN adults, who might have few outlets for creative endeavour.

“Each of the participants has really embraced the project, and we loved visiting the sites and learning about their history and construction so that when it came to sitting down and designing we had some real experience to base it on.

“I was delighted to see the group take centre stage amongst their nearest and dearest and get the chance to showcase and describe their creations close up.”

The Town House Townies meet regularly throughout the year and are always keen to attract new members for ongoing creative projects.
