They’re looking for future stars Hamilton club have spaces for youngsters
Hamilton Gymnastics Club is looking for the next generation of talented young gymnasts.
The club, which is the largest in Scotland with more than 1200 members, is opening its gym to preschool gymnastics classes.
Children from 18 months to five years old can attend classes with their parent or carer, and indulge all the childhood joys of bouncing, rolling, spinning and climbing, in a safe and fun environment.
The Scottish and British Gymnastics-registered club believes in gymnastics for all, and getting children involved from an early age can be beneficial.
As well as being fun, with music, play and games, the pre-school classes teach valuable lessons and physical and emotional skills at the same time.
Gymnastics is a core sport which means it provides a solid basis of training for any other sport.
Pre-school gymnastics teaches children important skills like balance and co-ordination, and with expert supervision and a playful environment, it’s a great way for kids to have fun and lay the foundations for a healthy, active lifestyle.
Pre-school gymnasts learn to fine-tune their motor skills, experience structure and discipline and improve concentration.
The benefits of gymnastics include increased flexibility, confidence and self-esteem, and it allows children to stimulate their imaginations and think for themselves.
A club spokesperson said: “The children at Hamilton’s pre-school classes get to play on Olympicstandard equipment, including foam pits.
“All the club’s coaches are British Gymnastics qualified, and have all the required safeguarding checks.”
Many of Hamilton’s current gym stars started out in pre-school classes.
Kennedi Foster, now part of the Scottish national development performance squad, was spotted in a nursery class several years ago.
She took part in her first British Championships earlier in the year.
Pre-school coach Fiona Mcdougall said: “It’s a really fun class. It’s also a great chance for parents and carers to spend quality time with their child.”
The club is fully inclusive and welcomes children with special needs or disabilities, and the first class is free.
Pre-school classes take place at the club’s gyms in Eddlewood and in Blantyre Industrial Estate.
