Dalziel take their place in last four

-

Dalziel Rugby Club progressed to the West Regional Shield semi-final with a 19-10 win at Oban Lorne.

Gavin Armstrong’s try was converted by Andrew Glover, who also slotted three penalties, while Graham Calder scored a drop-goal.

Dalziel will host West League 1 rivals Kilmarnock in the semi-final on Saturday, November 17.

Uddingston came from behind to beat Paisley 29-26 and surge to the top of the West League Division Two table, albeit with second-placed Lenzie sitting just one point behind, with a game in hand.

The opening 40 minutes were not pretty, but Paisley had better control, and were moving the ball with more purpose.

By the time the referee blew for half-time, Paisley had notched up three tries, two converted, while Uddingston had seen Lewis Tunnicliffe and Chris Roden crossing the whitewash, with Gavin Kidd converting the latter, for a 19-12 interval deficit.

Uddingston stepped up their effort at the start of the second half, with Kidd slotting a penalty to reduce the deficit to 19-15.

Paisley got back in control with their bonus point-earning fourth try, which was converted, but the Villagers weren’t done yet.

A dazzling 15-minute spell from stand-off Keith Bradley saw him cross for two tries, with Kidd converting both, which put Uddingston 29-19 in front.

Paisley threw everything they had at Uddingston for the closing 10 minutes but the visitors held out for a priceless win.

Strathaven’s match against Millbrae was postponed, as they head into Saturday’s derby at Uddingston in sixth place.

Coach Craig Ferguson is looking forward to visiting Uddingston, a club where he was formerly in charge.

In the Tennent’s National League 1, Hamilton can move up at least one place if they can beat a Musselburgh side which is four points ahead in seventh, and on the same tally as Gala a spot above.

It’s winner-takes-all at Hartree Mill as second-placed Highland visit league leaders Biggar. Whoever wins will be on top of the National League 2 pile.

In West League 1 secondplaced East Kilbride are the visitors to Dalziel Park against a side that is struggling in 11th place. All games kick-off at 3pm. Meanwhile, Hamilton Rugby Club are still on the lookout for new young players to add to their numbers.

The Laigh Bent club welcome anybody aged from P1 all the way through to under-18s, and all are welcome, regardless of their rugby experience or sporting prowess.

The club are holding their annual fireworks display on Saturday, November 3. Gates open at 6pm for 7.30pm start, family ticket is £20, adults are £8 and under-18s £5.
