Accies give too much time and space to Dens men

Hamilton hit woodwork twice but can’t find the net

Hamilton ...................... 0 Dundee ......................... 2

Hitting the woodwork twice and missing a gilt-edged chance from about three yards out sounds like Hamilton were unlucky in an exciting game – but the reality is quite different.

Accies followed up a turgid first-half display with something a bit more energetic in the second half, and they were unlucky, but ultimately Dundee ran out 2-0 winners, grabbing their first points in a terrible start to the season.

Fans were optimistic going into the game on the back of a good 3-0 win over St Mirren last week, but while the formation was similar, the personnel were not.

Livewire forward Mickel Miller and combative midfielder Darian Mackinnon were big misses, and replacements Tom Taiwo and Sam Kelly were simply unable to put their stamp on the game.

Dundee were by far the better team in the first half, and while they fell away somewhat in the second, they still had enough about them to conjure a stoppage-time clincher that will have delighted manager Neil Mccann – and possibly kept him in a job.

For Hamilton, it’s back to the drawing board and probably a return to a 3-5-2 formation as they head to Easter Road and a meeting with high-flying Hibs.

It just didn’t work for them as they sat off Dundee for far too long, allowing them to attack with gusto, while Elliott Parish didn’t get his gloves dirty in the first half.

That a set-piece goal was again Hamilton’s undoing will be no surprise to their fans. In
