Errors cost Well dearly

-

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson says his side needs to work hard to get out of a run of four straight defeats.

Their midweek Betfred Cup exit to Hearts was followed up by a 3-1 loss at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Curtis Main opened the scoring for Motherwell but then had a penalty saved by Jamie Macdonald. Then Chris Burke and Greg Stewart had Killie ahead before Eamonn Brophy’s penalty sealed the points.

Robinson said:“i am not going to nail an individual. Curtis Main missed a penalty and it was like giving their home crowd a lift, like scoring a goal, and it gave them momentum.

“However, for their goal, a runner ran off our midfielder like he wasn’t there. For the second and third goals it wasn’t good enough.

“We looked like we had a severe lack of confidence, which you do when you’re not winning football matches.

“It’s just not happening at the moment, so the only way to get out of that is to work harder.”

Main scored in 16 minutes when he latched on to a Ryan Bowman flick to shoot low past Macdonald.

In 39 minutes Jordan Jones had a shot saved by Trevor Carson but Burke smashed the rebound into the net.

Four minutes later Stewart burst past Liam Donnelly to fire low past Carson.

When Donnelly fouled Stewart in 58 minutes, Brophy converted the penalty.
