Round-up

Dalziel Rugby Club fell to a fifth defeat from six in West League Division 1, losing 56-12 at league leaders Greenock Wanderers, who are top of the division by three points over East Kilbride, but with a game in hand.

The Motherwell side bagged two tries through Stephen Baird and Niall Mckenzie, with Andy Scott kicking a conversion.

Bottom of the division, Dalziel have a huge match on Saturday as they host 11th-placed Cumnock, where a win could see them leap-frog their visitors.

In West League Division 2, Uddingston were knocked off the top of the table following a narrow 12-6 defeat at Lenzie, who moved two points clear, and with a game in hand.

A couple of Lenzie tries, in periods when Uddingston were down to 14 men, proved to be the difference.

Lenzie started well and made the breakthrough in 14 minutes, with Juan Jordan kicking a penalty to close the interval score down to 5-3.

A penalty early in the second half saw Jordan kick Uddingston 6-5 ahead, but a penalty try saw Lenzie take the points.

A win over Oban Lorne next week could be crucial for the Villagers to maintain their title challenge.

Luck seems to have deserved Strathaven as they fell to another narrow defeat, this time losing 20-14 at home to Bishopton.

They will hope for better fortunes when they travel to 10thplaced Cumbernauld on Saturday.

Hamilton were left cooling their heels as a waterlogged pitch meant their Tennent’s National 1 game at home to Fife side Kirkcaldy was called off.

They’re due to travel to 12th placed Kelso, and are in a position where they now need points to claw their way back up the table.

National League 2 leaders Biggar travel to 12th placed Lasswade, looking to further stretch their lead.
