Hamilton boss Martin Canning says his side didn’t deserve to lose 4-1 to Rangers on Sunday – but that they must lick their wounds and move on.

Ryan Kent’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Steven Boyd’s howitzer. However, a quick-fire penalty double by James Tavernier secured the points before Alfredo Morelos added a late fourth.

Canning says 4-1 massively flattered Rangers as they grabbed their first away win of the season. But the manager says he is now fully focused on an away double header against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen next Saturday and Wednesday.

The gaffer said: “It’s a tough thing for the players, and for me, to accept, because we put so much into the game, but the decisionma­king ultimately cost us.

“It wasn’t a 4-1 game but that’s football. We’ve lost the game 4-1 and on the balance of play I think anybody who watched that would know it’s not a 4-1 game.

“But, ultimately, when you’re sitting reading the papers the next day it says we’ve lost 4-1 and that’s disappoint­ing because the boys don’t deserve that.

“The organisati­on, the work-rate, the effort, the applicatio­n, the commitment to go and compete was all there.

“Everything I had asked them to go and do was all there, but maybe when you’re playing against the better teams you make a slight lapse in decision-making and you get punished.
