Wecan kick-start season
Young Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull says their clash at St Mirren on Halloween is likely to be a chiller for one of the teams, as they desperately bid for points.
The 19-year-old was a standout for the Steelmen in their 1-0 defeat at home to St Johnstone on Saturday – and says the game in Paisley next Wednesday is a “six-pointer”.
David, who admits the defeat to St Johnstone was “very tough to take”, said: “It will be a big one next week, they’re in the same position as us in the league and it’s basically a six-pointer.
“Whoever wins goes above the other. Hopefully it can be us and we can kick on up the table.
“Compared to last season, it’s not that we’re playing badly, there have been some good performances, but we’re just not getting the rub of the green with results and getting goals, but I’m sure it will come sooner rather than later.
“I believe that if we can beat St Mirren it could kick-start our season. It’s just about getting that win.” A Blantyre Soccer Academy welcomed 150 children to their annual October Football Camp last week.
Organised in partnership with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, children of all ages attended during the school break for the price of a non-perishable food item each day for Hamilton and District Foodbank.
The event saw football classes for girls-only teams, with guest appearances from several first team female players including Stacey Higgins and Amy Catrell of Airdrie Ladies, Emma Smith of Queen’s Park, and Lauryn Reside of Motherwell among others.
Maureen Chalmers, deputy leader of South Lanarkshire Council, and head of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Gerry Campbell delivered certificates of merit to all children at the end of the week.
Councillor Chalmers said: “This was a fantastic event which shows just how communities can work together and engage with other groups while at the same time helping those less fortunate.”
