Christmas appeal steps up a gear

- Staff reporter

It’s only been two weeks since the launch of our Advertiser Christmas Toy Appeal and already we are reaping the rewards from our generous supporters.

However, in order to fulfil demand we literally require thousands of gifts to help the hundreds of disadvantaged children on South Lanarkshire Council’s social work lists – and give them at least one bag of goodies each this Christmas day.

And this year the toys need to be delivered to the youngsters’ homes no later than Friday, December 14.

This means all donations must be with us by noon on Wednesday, December 12. With that in mind, we only have five weeks left to gather in the goods and this means we need your help.

Advertiser reporter Leona Greenan, who co-ordinates the appeal each year, said: “Please help by making a donation of a brand new toy or gift for a boy or girl from newborn to age 16.

“With the way Christmas falls this year we must receive everything by Wednesday, December 12, so please don’t put things off until the last minute and miss our deadline.

“Instead, if you’re out doing a shop please pick up something if you can and hand it in to one of our various drop-off points over the course of the next few weeks.

“Each year, your donations really do take the pressure off families who struggle and worry about how they can get through Christmas.

“The toy appeal spreads some Christmas cheer and the feedback we receive is that it is really appreciated, so please get on board and help deliver a magical Christmas for the children.”

As well as toys and gift sets, we also accept gift vouchers and cash donations, brand new clothes for all ages, nightwear and winter woolly sets. Batteries for the toys and wrapping paper are also extremely handy.

The gifts can be handed in to the Advertiser’s new premises at Unit 34, Brandon House, Brandon Street, Hamilton, Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm.

Alternatively, pop them in to the Salvation Army Hall on Burnblea Street, Hamilton, between 10am and noon weekdays or for those in the Larkhall area the Happy Feet Nursery (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) on 47-49 Claude Street are kindly taking in donations on our behalf.
