Race to victory for Academy’s Hannah
Student takes top spot in hospice fundraiser
A Strathaven Academy pupil was delighted to scoop first place at the Lanarkshire Schools 6k Road Race.
Hannah Anderson came first place in the ‘female pupils’ category.
The student completed the route in an impressive time of 24 minutes and 19 seconds.
Every year, hundreds of youngsters take part in the event to support St Andrew’s Hospice.
Lanark Grammar pupil Jessica Robson came in second at 24 minutes 31 seconds and Kayleigh Mitchell, from St Andrew’s High School, placed third with a time of 30 minutes and 45 seconds.
The event at Strathclyde Park helps to raises vital funds for the hospice.
The day was excellent and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the pre-race entertainment which was provided by DJ David Cluckie from St Andrew’s High School, St John Ogilvie High School Cheerleaders and Empire School of Dance.
Stuart Loudon, of sponsor IHE Stainless Ltd, presented the winners of each category with their awards.
The St Andrew’s Hospice fundraising team have to raise £88,000 every week to maintain care services for patients and their families across North and South Lanarkshire.
Andy Flynn, schools and community development coordinator, said: “The support from pupils and staff of the schools in Lanarkshire and the surrounding areas is absolutely incredible.
“We are only eight weeks into the new school term and we have already had 1600 people give up their Sunday to run a 6k to raise money for the hospice.
“We couldn’t continue to do this without the terrific support of the school communities who attend our events and give generously to St Andrew’s Hospice.
